Smoothie King aids princesses

Before Danielle Busby made history by delivering the only all-female quintuplets born in the U.S. who all survived, she got a smoothie makeover.

Busby posted a picture of herself drinking a smoothie on Instagram and tagged the League City, Texas, Smoothie King, where she bought it.

"I was looking at this pregnant woman (on Instagram) drinking a Smoothie King," said franchisee Robin Daniels. "She was 15 weeks along at the time." Daniels reached out to Busby and asked her which smoothie she was drinking.

Her smoothie of choice was one for taste, and not for the business of nourishing a mother carrying quintuplets. "She needed the Strawberry Hulk," Daniels said, which has around 1,000 calories, fruit, fiber and 25 grams of soy protein.  Daniels substituted vanilla yogurt for the ice cream that normally comes with the drink because Busby didn’t like butter pecan.

The drink is designed to put on weight sensibly.

But a smoothie a day for the entire pregnancy—which is what Daniels prescribed for the mother-to-be—could become expensive, so she discounted it to half price. "I don’t think she realized how momentous this was," Daniels said, talking about birthing five girls, not the half-price smoothies.

Now that Busby’s home with five of her six girls—one baby is still in the hospital and the Busbys also have a 3-year-old daughter—Daniels thinks she needs to switch to the Strawberry Yogurt Delight and make it skinny (under 300 calories). "Now I want her to have energy," she said.
