Company Description

Fatburger is a restaurant chain that serves American-style fare such as fries, onion rings, milkshakes and its signature burgers, with toppings including eggs, bacon and cheese.

Lovie Yancey founded the chain in 1947 when she opened the restaurant Mr. Fatburger in Los Angeles, California. In 1952, the name was shortened to Fatburger, and began expanding throughout California. In 1990, the brand began franchising.

The company has developed notoriety through the years for its pop culture references in projects like “The Fast and the Furious,” “Rat Race” and songs by Ice Cube, The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac.

Fatburger now has locations across the United States and in countries including China, Saudi Arabia and Japan. It’s franchised by FAT Brands, parent company to Buffalo’s Café and Express, Hurricane Grill & Wings, Ponderosa & Bonanza, Elevation Burger and Johnny Rockets, among others.

The company is tackling expansion in Florida after signing a 40-unit deal with franchisee group Whole Factor in 2025.
