Dairy Queen is an international chain of soft-serve ice cream and fast-food joints. A subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Inc., Dairy Queen also owns the restaurant concept Orange Julius.
Beginning in 1940 in Joliet, Illinois, and now headquartered in Bloomington, Minnesota, the Dairy Queen system is 100 percent franchised. Parent company International Dairy Queen formed in 1962 and was acquired by holding company Berkshire Hathaway in 1998.
The company, famous for its Blizzard soft-serve desserts, has expanded to about 20 countries.
